ABOUT Dave
I have always loved the challenge of transforming a blank piece of paper into a drawing or painting with meaning and emotional ties to my vision. The act of creating has been the theme of my life. I was educated at the University of Minnesota in the School of Architecture and Design, a school that stressed DESIGN. While studying architecture I took many art classes, quickly learning there is DESIGN in art as well as architecture. During my 50 year career as an architect I had to create within the boundaries allowed me by my clients, their budget and Building Codes. While earning my living as an architect I continued to paint enjoying the freedom of making art without the constraints imposed by architecture. I continued to study art taking numerous classes and workshops from notable instructors both locally and nationally. On the national level I have taken workshops with David Taylor, Steve Rogers, Skip Lawrence, Ted Nuttall, and Mary Whyte to name a few. Locally I studied under Dick Kane, Jeanne Lindsay, g.a. Sheller and Fred Lipp while taking classes at the University of Rochester's Creative Workshop within the Memorial Art Gallery, a place I now teach.
I retired from architecture in 2020 and now concentrate my life on making and teaching art. My teaching at the Creative Workshop runs year-round with Sring, Fall and Winter sessions, offering a wide variety classes including various levels of watercolor and drawing classes. I also enjoy teaching watercolor workshops for art groups around New York.
